Keeping up while I revamp the site, I'm posting a "Coffee 101" video I found, which provides some interesting basic facts regarding coffee, and its consumption.  Good stuff, so please grab a cup and enjoy!

Siphon brewing, at Drip LA!

A beautiful video I first located on the outstanding blog Dear Coffee, I Love You, shows the basics of siphon brewer operation at Drip LA.  Stunning, frankly, its simplicity and showmanship is impressive, so please do enjoy, and if you happen to have a yen to add one of these gems, please visit Cova of Portland, at: http://coava.myshopify.com/

... and we're back!...

Well, it has officially been over a year since the blog has been updated, but its been a busy year!   Aside from reasons (excuses) why I've let this blog to go seed, its time to start it back up again.  I'll be working on focusing on a more immediate coffee world (e.g. I'll still have "location", but I'll also include more "home brewed" coffee), and likely other coffee-related things.  As such, please do stay tuned, as I'll be adding more to this corner of the Tampa foodie experience!

Cafe Hey (Tampa)

Location: Downtown Tampa

I've decided to start this endeavor with a trip to a well reviewed location name Cafe Hey.  After a bit of travel in downtown Tampa, I finally located it in a part of town undergoing renovations.  It is physically located on the corner of the building it resides in, and fairly easily identified by the window logo and some chairs & tables out front.  When I arrived, I stepped into a storm shutter upgrade, which seems par for the course for the area.

Service: I arrived with the other half in a bit of a petulant mood, so when my better half ordered a hot chocolate, I was a bit perplexed her decision.  I approached the young lady behind the counter, who took my order a bit disinterestedly but politely, and proceeded to work on the order.  As it was fairly early day for me, I decided to indulge in a Cuban Coffee.  My Cuban was pretty prompt in arriving, but the the hot chocolate took about 5 minutes to arrive - a tad on the slow side.

The main serving area of Cafe Hey.

Prices:  About average.  Not too expensive, but on par with what most coffee shops charge for their coffee products.

Coffee:  Bitter was the operative word with my Cuban coffee.  I"m assuming they added the sugar after pouring the espresso, which led to the beverage having a bitter aftertaste.  In retrospect, there didn't seem to be much of a kick to the Cuban, but perhaps that may have simply been attributed my being a bit fatigued.  The better half said she enjoyed her hot chocolate - but then again, she was more interested with her phone conversation.

However, I still felt the need for a bit more energy, so I indulged in a mocha.  Again, an acceptable option, not too much foam or chocolate to masque the coffee, but just enough for the morning.  Then again, a Mocha is simply a hot, syrupy milkshake, so I'm not sure if I can really count that in this (or future) reviews.  Finished up, ready for the day's Volksmarch!

The remnants of my beloved Cuban!

I will probably have to return to Cafe Hey at some point in time, but as of this writing, I wasn't quite as impressed with it as some of the other reviewers were.  Would I go back?  Were I in the area, and needing a coffee - possibly, but I'm not convinced it was worth the trip.
